This clip was sent to me from Deanna of Sunnybrook Stables in Alberta Canada. This will air on National TV, Saturday May 10th at 6:30 PM MST on Access TV. Be sure to watch! Way to go Deanna!!
Curlies have been my passion since first discovering them in 1985. The main characteristic that drew me to them was their temperament. After being dumped my final time from a thoroughbred and cracking 3 ribs again I decided that it was time for a nice, quiet, docile horse that would still be athletic enough to do the eventing, jumping and dressage that was my passion. And the curly horse has never let me down.
Who would have thought, way back then, that my first curly mare would have been the foundation for a breeding program that would lead to International exposure. Not me. I was just your average Joe (or Jolene I guess!), who enjoyed teaching riding, doing riding camps and training my own horses. But over the last few years we have been blessed to make numerous friends around the world through our wonderful Curly Horses.
Then, last February, Cowboy Country Television called and asked if we would be interested in being highlighted for their series. Didn't take long to answer that question! Wow, couldn't believe my ears, someone was interested in doing a National segment on our horses! They had heard an interview we had done on CBC radio and were intrigued with the hypoallergenic horses, they had never heard of them. June of 2007 they arrived with their full camera and interview crew and stayed for 5 hours! They arrived 2 hours early, so we were caught a little by surprise (hence the hose in the first picture!!)
Lots of preparation for the big day. All the horses had a bath, I called fellow students and owners to see who wanted to come out and be part of the excitement.
Lisa arrived and gave her testimonial on her sons allergies, Amanda rode her curly boy Dandee and Nichole volunteered to ride Oakley. There was a storm coming in (again!) so of course I was telling about how calm and quiet our horses are and everyone out in the field was snorting with tails up and dashing around like silly horses. And Annie's little gem by Charming Prince really put on a performance, dashing and bucking all over the place! Little Princess Annie was really full of energy and entertained everyone all afternoon.
It was a super fun, exciting and fulfilling day. Our horses, as usual, never let us down and we are so thankful that they are in our lives. My only regret was that I left my cowboy hat on the kitchen table! When they arrived early we were in a panic to get everything looking good and never went back in the house. What kink of a cowgirl goes on National Television for Cowboy Country without a Cowboy Hat! Just your average Jolene, I guess.
