Excellent bloodlines. Wonderful temperment! Proven broodmare, show horse, and trail horse! This pretty mare combines the best of the Missouri Foxtrotter Curly with the tradition of a Native American Curly. She is not gaited. This sweet and social mare stands about 14 to 14.1 hands. She is substantial and feels much bigger when you ride her with a lovely forward walk, steady trot and rhythmical canter. She is a rich red chestnut sabino with roaning spots throughout her body with more roaning popping up every year. She keeps her tail and much of her mane year round. Her winter coat is very curly and her summer coat is crushed velvet. She is a good horse citizen and clips, baths, takes her worm medicine, stands for the farrier, loads into the trailer without problems. She enjoys camping and we have trail ridden throughout Wisconsin. She loves the trail - hills, steep climbs, rocks, roots, slippery footing - bring it on! The tougher the trail the better she rides. She ties overnight and will stand on a picket. She eats and drinks well while traveling. She crosses water and wooden bridges. We don't ride on the road so I really don't know how she would handle traffic. She will ride alone or she will ride in the group. In a group, she will ride in front or bring up the rear. She has been exhibited at the Midwest Horse Fair in 2002 proved brave and tolerant with the noise and crowds. For two years, she was leased by an in-experienced 4H youth and shown in halter, trail in hand, costume and showmanship. Ruth and her youth handler were always in the ribbons. She needs more work under saddle before she is ready to show ring under saddle. She is suitable for an intermediate rider. She is not suitable for a beginner rider due to her quickness. She is not a deadhead and is very alert to her surroundings. She will occasionally spook at things that pop up on a trailride (like turkeys). She had one foal and was an excellent relaxed mother. For those who are looking for a sport pony mare, here is an excellent moving mare for your program. I was going to breed her for a sport pony but decided that I needed to keep my life simple.
Why am I selling this mare? She has been used primarily by my husband for trail riding. He wants to focus on hunting now and really has no interest to trail ride. I have another horse that I am working so Ruth is left without the attention that she deserves. The proper home with an experienced horse loving family is most important to me so I will negotiate on the price.
